A hanging...........recycling alternative!

Have you ever found while looking through your closet a bunch of hangers that have no clothes on them? Normally, we throw them away and don't think twice about it. 101 Design Studio, based in South Korea, had a better option for those extra hangers. They have created "48"............

As the name, "48" suggests the lights use 48 discarded wire hangers to create a very modern shape an almost eye-wink reminiscent to the traditional lampshade without the cover. The design comes in both a standing and hanging version, "48 Hanger" and "48 Stand".

A truly unique way to re-use those once thought of as trash hangers by creating something very beautiful!

Waldemeyer's Magic!

Ok so everyone has a secret passion for fashion if they admit it or not!

Twice named "British Designer of the Year", Hussein Chalayan is an internationally regarded fashion designer renowned for his architectural tailoring and progressive use of new technology. His spring 2008 collection Readings was inspired by themes of ancient sun worship and the contemporary phenomenon of celebrity, illustrated by pieces that literally emanate light. The extending laser beams represent the relationship between audience and icon. Waldemeyer's engineering genius made this challenging vision possible.

The dresses themselves are highly structured, creating bold silhouettes from which the laser beams radiate. They are embellished with Swarovski crystals that either deflect the lasers, or take in their light, depending on the angle of the beam. The effect is hauntingly beautiful; where lasers shine directly into Swarovski crystals, they resemble glowing embers; yet where they are deflected, the laser beams project into the surrounding space evoking phantasmagorical new-age sun godesses.
The result is one of the most dynamic examples of a new fusion, where fashion and design meet, each enhancing the other.

Well you have to admit you definitely would catch everyone's attention wearing this dress!!

Planilum

Ok so everyone remembers the liquid T-1000 from the Terminator movies but who would have thought that you could actually possess it in real life??? Well Saazs and Saint-Gobain Innovations have developed 'Planilum', over the past 6 years.

The driving force behind this idea is to replace lamps and dedicated lighting fixtures by integrating these panels in order to use as illumination sources, doing away with the need to actually buy light fixtures. Planilum only measures a mere 0.8mm thin.

Because of their soft glow, Planilum lights only get about as hot as the human body, which means that there is no need for a shade or diffuser. They are also about 90% recyclable because the design is nearly all glass. For these reasons, the Planilum can be integrated into designs that make a break from traditional lighting fixtures. In fact, the plan at Saazs and Saint-Gobain is to develop furniture and other household objects with these panels to make more functional and attractive lighting solutions.

But of course anything looking this good is going to be mega bucks so chequebooks will be required!!!

Art Gallery Projectors

Recently at Light IQ, we pushed the barriers of convention and used a projector to light up a room with........art!!!

Artscape Gallery started filming the first video painting in 2001. Video paintings are non-narrative; there is no dialogue, no sound. The camera is static and there is no subsequent editing or manipulation of the material.

Through the video painting, usually between five and twenty minutes in length, the artist leads us into a way of seeing which has no determinable meaning but which carries a unique emotional hue. Video paintings challenge us to let go of the endless search for closure or understanding and approach instead what it is to experience the world.

Why not let yourself unwind after a tough days work in the office by returning home to your own relaxing paradise of art!
