Making Light in New York

This September Ingo Maurer is celebrating 10 years in New York. For forty years he has been taking risks as an innovator, manufacturer and inspired dreamer and is one of the most celebrated designers in the world.

Fascinated by the 'magical and mystical' properties of light he is among the first designers to experiment with LEDs with his modern inventive designs, as in the Luster Light, which is a sketch of a chandelier printed on glass with tiny LED lights that illuminate the whole thing. A beautiful and inspiring re-working of the traditional chandelier.

Moving away from the tradition of lighting on walls, ceilings or floors the lighting of furniture is a fun and individual way of making a statement in your home and Ingo Maurer does it beautifully with tables and benches lit with small LED lights giving a magical quality to the furniture.

Beyond any functionality, Maurer's lighting regularly crosses from lighting into contemporary art.
