Green lights grow up!

The innovative Light Blossom design by Philips is taking renewably powered exterior lighting to a new dimension creating an ethereal effect to the urban landscape.

Petal Pusher which is a solar and wind powered concept follows the sun to maximise efficiency. During the day the petals with their PV panels slowly open. Rather like a sunflower the petals track the movement of the sun to maximise efficiency.

On cloudy, windy days, the fitting moves its petals to an upward half-open position, allowing them to catch the wind, if the sun reappears the fitting stops rotating, and opens again to catch the sun's rays.

The magic starts at night when the petals close and the landscape is illuminated by LEDs on the underside of the petals and up the stem. Walking home on a cold winter's night would bring back childhood memories of magical faraway places!!

MacGyver Tries a Reading Lamp

I'm sure you remember the ipod speakers made out of twine and bubblegum, right? Well here, also, lives on the spirit of the greatest Industrial Designer of an age: The MacGyver. Yes, the man that can conjure anything in a strangely simple way. Here, designer Donell Hutson continues the legend by attaching a square mirror to a 5 LED light array.

And that's it!
Light shines up at mirror; mirror deflects light to your paper. Your paper is totally happy by this, and you can thank the Industrial Design Gods for this simple gift.

In Donell Hutson's prototype, listed is: LED's, Small Clamp Light, Metal Sheeting (Aluminum), Tin Foil, Mild Diffuser Material, and Metal Wire.

It's amazing what you can do with a few pieces of scrap, definitely an inspiration to us all to start thinking outside the box.

The Sense light swing

Ok so spring is in the air, the days are getting longer, you are no longer leaving work in darkness (well if your lucky...) The Sense light swing is designed by Alexander Lerwick and combined fibre optics with plastic tubing to create this illuminated swing.

On a dark summer night, the swing creates a spectacular light show that lights up a whole garden in the most beautiful way. The swing was originally shown in the "Five playful chairs" exhibition in 2005 and has been a huge success around the globe.

Why not get into the spirit of spring and summer by adding a little bit of fibre optic fun to your garden to entertain both the kids and yourselves! A great highlight for any dinner party!

Antonio Lupi - Cromobox LED Colour therapy Showerdoors

Here at Light IQ we are intrigued but cautious about colour light therapy. We would love to embrace the idea fully, but definitely agree that a little bit of colour can go a long way to brighten up anyone's day. Antonio Lupi has taken the idea one step further and has designed the Cromobox.

The Cromobox LED shower features a full spectrum of colour that impacts you from the inside out. Lift your spirits every morning with invigorating green; turn up the heat with vivid red; soothe your soul at night with the calming effects of a true blue hue.

Now that red would definitely wake me up in the morning!
