Garden Designer : Charlotte Rowe
Project: Roof terrace in North London.
The brief was to create a soft lighting scheme to enhance the beauty of the garden whilst not disturbing the wonderful views across London. The lighting scheme was designed to be simple and unobtrusive.
Carefully placed spike spots uplight the olive trees and the water feature, while spotlights have been set to downlight on to the pergola to catch the pattern of the wooden trellis and surrounding planters. Glare guards have been included for all visible fittings to minimise glare.
While low voltage light sources have been adopted to render the colours of the plants, highly efficient sources have been used elsewhere. A series of small blue LED uplights with Svarovski crystals recessed into the floor decking lead the way to a seating area, where linear LEDs have been set concealed under the wooden benches to provide a soft wash of light at low level. Here guests can relax, have a drink and enjoy the wonderful view.
Transformers, LED drivers and other control gear have been completely concealed buried in planters or under the decking.
Lighting control is via the Wise Box kit, a lighting and user friendly lighting control system that allows switching the lights from anywhere in the garden or the apartment via a wireless controller or via a wall mounted keypad at the access point to the terrace. |
