Part L1A of the Building Regulations came into force in April 2006. This states that all new builds or renovations must now ensure that either 25% of all fixed light fittings, or that one fitting per 25meter square of floor space are energy efficient. This does not include wardrobes, cupboards or garage spaces.
There is a lot of confusion as to what constitutes an energy efficient fitting or lamp. Please see our lamp and product sections which highlight the ranges available to you. The criterion states that for a lamp to be deemed 'energy efficient' the lamp must produce in excess of 45 lumens of light per circuit watt. The confusion has primarily arisen as some lamps, such as LED's, consume low amounts of energy, however, as their light output is also low this does not allow most of them to be deemed 'energy efficient' under the new guidelines.
